“The training offered exactly what I was looking for. Best practices were covered extensively.”

Anke Ruigrok has been working in the data field for over twenty years, in a variety of roles. She has been working as a freelancer for five years. She is currently hired by Enexis Group as a metadata specialist. Her task: to implement data management at Enexis and organize the metadata.

Why did you choose the CDMP Specialist training in Metadata Management?

“Metadata management is a relatively new field in the data world. We are increasingly realizing that it is useful to clearly describe what type of data is stored in a particular database. This also applies to Enexis. We work with a huge number of applications, but at a high level, there is no clear picture of exactly where the data is located. That is why tooling has been purchased to get metadata management in order. It is my job to implement that tooling. I signed up for the training because I wanted to be inspired.”

Why did you choose the Connected Data Academy?

“Actually, I wanted to take a training course in metadata much earlier, but it never happened. Three years ago, I took the CDMP Fundamentals training course at another training institute. I am enthusiastic about DAMA DMBoK and I can reread the chapter on metadata management myself, but I wanted some more inspiration around it. I also wanted to be well prepared for the exam. I saw a post from Connected Data Academy on LinkedIn: training on Friday, exam on Monday. It was exactly the weekend my husband was away. With a few clicks, I was able to register.”

What do you think of the quality of the CDMP Specialist training in Metadata Management?

“The training offered exactly what I was looking for, maybe even more. I was mainly looking for best practices, and those were covered extensively. I gained a lot of tools to better perform my current role. For example, at Enexis, I had started the implementation of the tool with great enthusiasm, but I realized that it would be better to first take a closer look at the how and why of metadata management: what exactly do we want to achieve with it? What does that mean for the design of the system? It’s also good to occasionally pause with the whole team to reflect on these questions, to sit down together and recalibrate. I really gained that insight during the training.
The Specialist training uses the same book as the Fundamentals training. I think that’s an advantage, because I already know the material, but now I read it much better and can relate it to my own experience. I notice that I now think about the material much more and think: maybe I should pay more attention to this, because then the rest will fall into place. I didn’t have those insights three years ago when I had to know the entire book for the Fundamentals exam.
A final advantage of the training course, in my opinion, was the discussions with like-minded people. Everyone who takes the training course is dealing with the same issues. This immediately leads to in-depth discussions. What’s more, the participants and trainers are useful contacts in my network.”
